Representing Donkor, or traditional scarification patterns of the Ashanti peoples of Ghana, this mask was used in a dance to welcome and protect babies into the tribe and scare away death. Artist Robert Nortey is inspired by the customs and beliefs of the people of Ghana in his work. This hand-carved sese wood mask features painted details and embossed aluminum.
